Zorinsky Federal Building Renovation

Leo A. Daly was selected for a complete building renovation.  The project modernized the 1958 original building that had been outpaced by technical advances.  The design for the nine-story building provided replacement of the building facade and heating/cooling, plumbing, lighting and electrical systems.  Although not seeking LEED certification, the project followed the principles of the US Green Building Council. Sustainable design features include reuse and revitalization of the structure, replacement of windows with energy-efficient windows, installation of sun-shelves and sun-shade devices at exterior windows, use of recyclable and recycled renovation materials, rooftop rainwater collection as greywater to flush toilets, photo-voltaic rooftop solar collectors, and installation of a highly energy efficient HVAC system.
The reinforced existing structural system and new window system met current DOD/DOJ blast resistance specifications.
*Some projects shown were commissioned, designed, and completed while under the employ of other architectural firms. Projects herein were completed with all or significant contributions by Francisco Herrera
